The Beginning:

To whom this may concern,

Well let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Tyron and as a friend of Sebastian, it gives me great pleasure to share my automotive obsession with you, even more so, a place to document my build and keep progress over the next few months.

I’m currently building a 98 BMW 328IS, or as its known in the bmw world; an e36 (1992-1999 3series). I bought the car in November of 2012. I saw the car listed on kijiji a few months prior and took down the number immediately, even though I had no money in my bank (im sure im not the only one who’s done this). This was the one, this was the car that you’ve been looking for months to find. Clean, limited owners, tastefully/subtly modded and most important of all NO RUST!  I later contacted the guy about 3 months later as I was a bit more financially stable lol.

This brings me to my next chapter, going to check the car out. It was a Saturday in November and even though it hadn’t snowed all winter yet, the Saturday I was going to buy and drive the car home from BORDEN; which is over 100kms away from me  I might add, on 18″ bald summer tires, it decided to blizzard. Great…so we got up there, I test drove it and everything checked out okay….until…just as I pull into the parking lot the battery light came on which usually means a fried alternator. This was a blessing in disguise as he had told me earlier on, he had driven the car from Sudbury and almost written the car off in these adverse weather conditions.  So CAA it is! Here are a few pics of the days event: Excuse the iphone pics!

So after researching and deciding for a year on turboing an e36, I finally had one to turbo, so the long process began of collecting parts,  and spending money…and more money…..and..yeah you get it.

A brand new built motor popped upforsale on one of the many automotive forums I’m on, and I thought I must have! So I did! I put a deposit on it, the only problem was the motor was sitting 10hrs away in Stamford Connecticut, which is about an hour north of Manhattan. On the plus side, it was sitting at ICS Performance, home to some of the fastest turbo charged bmws, porsches and evos/subarus in the world. So a road trip was in order, but this was no ordinary roadtrip. The plan was to leave Saturday at 430am and be home Sunday morning by 1-2am, in time for work on Monday!

So we left, and drove and drove and drove some more:

and it snowed from the time we left, till the time we got home. Blah!

When we finally reached ICS Performance we were greeted with nothing but the utmost respect, and there was nothing but excitement in the air! I met the owner, George Kakaletris, who, in the bmw world is like the messiah of turbo bmws. Hes been doing this shit since the early 2000’s when people were still learning about the 2jz and b16’s lol,

The master himself:

As I walked around the shop looking at all the famous turbo bmws and other turbo monsters that have ever hit the internet. Georges 1000rwhp+ 230mph++ texas mile e36 m3, a 850rwhp twin turbo m coupe, 2 600rwhp+ e36 m3’s, eddie bellos(ICS’s Fabricator) 1300whp+ porsche 964 that runs 170mph trap speeds in the quarter mile, it went on and on!  It felt like I had died and gone to heaven.

600rwhp m3:

Heres a vid of Eddie Bellos 964 which recently ran in the texas mile, he placed 1st overall! Congrats to him the the ICS Performance team!

We went for a few rides in the cars and all I have to say is, once bit with the turbobug its all over, and theres nothing you can do. Its so addicting, I now know what a junky feels like when hes craving his next fix, because I live everyday like that, craving my next full boost pull down a deserted highway!

When I got back home at 5am that sunday morning(thanks nick for the crazy drive there and back in 25hrs) all I kept thinking about was how badly I wanted a 600rwhp m3, so a week later i ordered one of these:

Garrett Gt4094r

and then a couple of these to go along with it:

This weekend I tackled my rear subframe and suspension bushing, the main reason for the subframe removal was to weld reinforcement plates where the subframe mounting studs and bolts, mount the subframe to the body. Well the metal is extremely weak and will eventually be torn away from the mounts.

So I called up AKG motorsports and ordered up some solid motor and transmission mounts, polyurethane subframe and trailing arm bushings, reinforcement plates, oh and I told them to throw in one of their ultimate dtm race shifters.

Success! Now time for the Bushings and some paint! I managed to source POR15 locally, and at 60 bucks a liter this stuff aint cheap! But it works great! highly recommended!

Nick being a big fag as usual!

Came out great!

Some bushing removal, What a pain! I was using 3 of part sources tool kits to try and make up one good kit that would work to get that bushings out! I had to go to home depot and get some threaded rod which helped immensely!

Custom bushing remover:

All in all, it wasnt too bad and i was expecting it to be ALOT worse! The POR15 took a beating and held up no problem at all! So I painted the rest of the rear end suspension components:

So thats where i’m at right now, hoping to get a bunch more done this weekend and will be sure to update!

Happy blogging!
